OK Ladies and Gents.....

First of all, sorry for the lack of the Tom Brokaw or newscaster voice tone, but nobody is perfect....... :rr:

Second....for those of you out there that didn't believe the importance of the neutral switches circuit (failure code 67) for proper idle control, prevent the infamous rolling/surging idle till it stalls condition, etc, etc........here is the proof.

Third.....special thanks go to "Defacto_pr Productions"... :salute: .... for providing the HW/SW that made this little demonstration possible.

Fourth....another special thanks go to Mr. Jim Woods, owner of my other "Ford Forum Home"....SBFTech.com, for allowing the utilization of his server and bandwidth to host this information and be able to share it.

SOOOooooo.........w/out further adue .....here it is....check it out and LUK any feedback.

ok i finally got the video to work. interesting stuff. i'm curious though, was that jumper simulating the clutch switch or the tranny gear switch? also, would performance or driveability suffer if you left that jumper in while driving?

BTW, was that you narrating?

Yup....remember that the switches are in a parallel circuit setup, any of them (clutch pedal or gear switch) is closed, the circuit is closed....for the system to be "in-gear", you would need both switches to be open....in this case, since the gear switch is also kaput, I used the more accessible clutch pedal switch to "force" a "in-neutral" condition by shorting the pins.

Driveability suffers to some degree, since you are forcing a permanent "in-neutral" condition, idle dashpot will be canceled at some degree (the VSS will be the only one to id load). BTW....that was a 100% stock '87 SD Mustang LX.

....and yup....that was YT.....or didn't you notice the Raul Julia (MHRIP) accent?.... :laughing6:

i'd never heard that name before now. now i have to watch addams family values this week to compare accents :clown:

that makes sense to me about the clutch switch thing. i was wondering why mine idles ok with a 67, its because i have a functioning clutch switch. i guess that my gear switch has failed in the open state. i wonder if fixing it would help driveability? you've probably answered my question and i'm just missing it

That video was very informative. Thank you for posting it. I have a question. Will a code 67 trigger a CEL?

nope. its one of the many codes that does not cause the CEL to come on.

Simple.....that was a SD system, if the idle starts rolling/surging, so does the vacuum reading at the MAP, making the problem worse b/c the system now has more than one correction to make at the same time (idle control + A/F + neutral signal missing....).....in your case, you have a MA system.....vacuum changes do not affect A/F as directly as a SD setup does.

Sweet video... I havent had that problem for awhile.. it Idles fine now, but when I pull it for codes it shows up as code 67, so I'm assuming its my gear switch on the tranny.... but just for future refrence I'm assuming that all you have to do is add and keep a papper clip on that harness and problem goes away? Atleast that's what it seems like by viewing he video. :salute:

Car standing still = yes......the only "drawback" would be, a quicker return to idle when you're coming to a stop.....the "IAC dashpot" function will be affected.....not that much though, but it could cause some stalls.
